Filter Bubble Needs to be Popped!
Most people are friends with people who have similar beliefs and views. Most people also are "friends" with people on Facebook that they're not actually that close with. These "friends" allow different view points to come across the newsfeed and expand the filter bubble. Facebook's filter bubble decides what Facebook users see. They attempted to even that out with the Trending section where the top news stories are displayed to everyone equally. Instead of only giving one news source, all sources pop up on the trending topic. The issue with this is that Facebook is unable to filter out unreliable sources. Unfortunately, people believe everything they read on the internet and are unable to sort reliable and unreliable sources. Although Facebook is attempting to open up the filter bubble Eli Pariser made a great point when he said that Facebook is downplaying the effects of the algorithm that decides what users see. I think overall the filter bubble needs to be popped and although there are unreliable sources, it's nice to see that Facebook is trying.

Good point that people are often "friends" with people they don't know all that well. That kid from HS who friended you for some reason and is either really far left or really far right of wherever you are on the political spectrum. It isn't fair that your feed should be determined by anyone other than you for sure.
