Teacher Networking


Classroom 2.0 is an online social networking site where teachers connect from all over. There is a forum where teachers can discuss subjects, units, behavioral issues, or anything else related to teaching. There are groups dedicated to specific topics that are more in depth. There are also things like a Diigo group, live chats, and free workshops. Not only is this a social media site, but it also has recordings about incorporating technology into the classroom. These recordings are narrated PowerPoints, which make them easy to follow. Each member sets up a profile, which can be linked to other social media accounts. The site is a great way to connect with other teachers incorporating technology into learning.

I started blogging last semester for a class and really loved the freedom that came with it. As a student, I found that I could write for a class and not feel stressed about sounding professional. Having that stress taken away made my assignments more meaningful and more fun! I would use blogs in my music classroom for reflections of music. Each Friday my students partake in Favorite Friday, where select students choose some of their favorite songs, past or present, and their classmates reflect on each song. I ask them to write at least three things about the song using musical terms, such as beat, lyrics, or certain instruments. I usually have them write this on paper and most students write very little. I believe that if I opened this up to a blog, many more students would be interested. A learner is like a Tree

A learner is like a tree. Have you ever seen a tree growing at a 90 degree angle and wonder just why and how it did that? A tree follows what it needs - water. A learner does the same thing - they follow what they need. They look up information when it is relevant, they learn as they come across a problem. The Connectivism article says that " Learning is about behaviour change" which relates very closely to a tree changing its direction of growth to take in the water it needs to sustain itself. Learners adapt their way of learning with each new piece of technology coming out. Before this advance technology if people wanted to know something they either had to look it up in a book or ask people until they got their answer.
